The Hideouts Story
The Dream
Kat and Colman's story began at a summer camp in Wisconsin right after their freshman year of high school. They hit it off as friends and later became camp counselors, bonding over archery, kayaking, and organizing campouts. Their friendship outlasted their camp days and led them on nomadic adventures across campgrounds in the U.S. and abroad.
During their travels, their friendship evolved into romance, and they began happily dating. Their shared adventures deepened their connection, and they found immense joy in exploring the world together. Their travels eventually brought them to Southern Oregon, where a planned overnight camping trip turned into a two-week stay and a lasting love for the area. Though they continued exploring, they found themselves drawn back to this beautiful corner of the world time and time again and now call it home. Today, Kat and Colman are happily creating a life together with their little one-eyed dog, Willie, and three cats: Sully, M’Baku, and Loki.
On their adventures, they were constantly inspired by various campgrounds, hostels, and homesteads, and it became clear that one day they wanted to create a space of their own to host like-minded travelers. They draw on their individual passions and backgrounds to craft unique and creative spaces. Colman has a background in environmental science and later worked as a project manager, while Kat studied psychology and art and has been a licensed practicing therapist for the past six years. Together, they dream of creating a place where people can connect, heal, and express themselves artistically through their love for the outdoors. They’re excited to host events and engage with the community in the seasons to come!

History of the Land
This dedication honors the native tribes who have called the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest home for thousands of years. The Takelma, Shasta, and Karuk tribes, among others, lived and thrived in this beautiful region long before settlers arrived. The Takelma made their homes along the Rogue River, fishing and gathering acorns. The Shasta, known for their incredible basket weaving and spiritual practices, lived around the Siskiyou Mountains. The Karuk, with their rich ceremonies and deep knowledge of the land, settled along the Klamath River. These tribes lived sustainably, respecting and caring for the environment around them. Their deep connection to this land still inspires us today, reminding us of the importance of preserving this beautiful area. We honor their history, culture, and the lasting impact they've had on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.
